Doing van life in Ohiopyle can be tough!
Stealth camping is a no-go, since overnight parking is illegal within the state park (unless you have a special permit to park while you’re on the Laurel Highlands Trail). Even if you manage to sneak your van onto a street overnight, the train cutting through town every couple hours doesn’t make for peaceful sleep.
The state park campground is nearby, but it definitely won’t be a wilderness camping experience. You’re almost sure to be squished too close next to your camp neighbors.
But only a few more minutes up the road from Ohiopyle State Park is Tall Oaks Campground, a secluded piece of old-growth forest where you can bring your van and camp in peace! Our sites are quiet, spacious and dark. No squeezing in among mega-watt RV’s and big rowdy family groups!
Our “van life” sites are for van camping and tent camping only, as they don’t have enough room to turn around a 45-foot RV. They have 110 amp electric, designed with modern camper vans in mind. (Tent camping is allowed on these sites, but we only allow two cars the park on a site). At Tall Oaks, you’ll feel like you’ve got the whole forest to yourself.
Van Life or Electric Tent sites cost $22 for the first person, then $16 for each additional person (up to a 6 people maximum per site.)
